Vision blinds guide

choosing a vision blind

A vision blind, also called a day and night blind, is a roller with a twist. One long piece of fabric, striped with alternating sheer and solid bands, is looped so it hangs in two layers, and sliding those layers past each other takes you from filtered daylight to privacy without raising the blind. It suits street-facing front rooms, kitchens and home offices. We offer the Louvolite Vision collection, with more than 85 fabrics.

How the two layers work

The fabric runs down the front, through the bottom bar and back up behind, so two striped layers always hang together. Turn the chain a little and the stripes shift against each other. Line sheer up with sheer and you look out through clear bands. Move the solid bands over the sheer ones and the blind closes into a near-solid panel. Keep turning and it rolls right up like any roller. It is one control doing three jobs, which is why people who find a plain roller too all-or-nothing tend to like it.

Light, privacy and what it won't do

Louvolite sells its Vision fabrics as dim-out or light-filtering, and the gap between the bands is large. On Rimini the solid stripe blocks 98 per cent of UV and the sheer stripe 14 per cent. Closed, the blind gives good daytime privacy and a soft, even light, but not darkness, so for a bedroom that must be dark a blackout roller is the better choice. Open, it earns its keep in a front room facing strong afternoon sun off the sea, taking the glare off while keeping the view.

Choosing a fabric

The collection runs from plain linen-look stripes to metallics, boucles and wood-weave effects, and band width changes the character: narrow bands read as texture, wide ones look bolder. The fabrics are made for living rooms, bedrooms and offices rather than steam, so for a bathroom a moisture-resistant roller is the better choice. Vision blinds work on a looped chain with child safety features, and all our blinds comply with EN 13120 and BBSA Make It Safe.

common questions

What's the difference between vision, day and night and zebra blinds?

They are the same idea under different names: a doubled roller fabric with sheer and solid stripes that slide past each other. Vision is Louvolite's name for its version, and it is the collection we offer. What differs between brands is fabric quality, band widths and the finishes on the headrail and bottom bar.

Is a vision blind better than a normal roller blind?

More flexible, not better everywhere. A vision blind gives daylight and privacy together, which a plain roller can't. A plain roller wins where you need full blackout, a moisture-resistant fabric, or the cleaner look of a single cloth. Plenty of homes have vision blinds downstairs and blackout rollers in the bedrooms.

Can people see in through a vision blind at night?

Through the sheer bands, yes, once your lights are on and it is dark outside. In the open position you are looking through a voile, and voiles show the lit side. Slide the stripes closed in the evening and the solid bands overlap to give privacy.

How do you clean a vision blind?

Gently. Treat the fabric as dust-only: run a soft brush attachment over them with the blind lowered and dab small marks with a barely damp cloth. Don't soak them, as that can stiffen the sheer bands unevenly.
